Who I am
I am a researcher in sustainable finance at Frankfurt School of Finance & Management, where I am affiliated with the UNEP Collaborating Centre for Climate & Sustainable Energy Finance. I hold a PhD in Banking and Finance (summa cum laude) from Justus-Liebig-Universität Gießen, and a Master of Science in Carbon Finance from the University of Edinburgh Business School, where I received the Academic Excellence Award.
My research sits at the intersection of financial markets, sustainability measurement, and climate policy. I work on questions like: How do climate risks travel through banks and credit portfolios? Do responsible investors actually help decarbonize the economy? Why do individuals systematically misread corporate sustainability data? And how can machine learning help fill the enormous gaps in ESG data?
Before moving into academic research, I spent several years as a sustainable finance advisor at the UNEP Collaborating Centre — advising banks, financial regulators, and policymakers on climate risk frameworks, net-zero banking, and ESG data infrastructure. I contributed to and helped support the development of the EU Taxonomy as an additional expert to the EU Technical Expert Group on Sustainable Finance in 2020. I have led teams of up to ten people on projects ranging from stress testing to green product strategy.
That background shapes how I approach research: I care about questions that matter in practice and try to produce findings that are rigorous enough for academics and legible enough for the practitioners and policymakers who need to act on them.

A personal note
Life outside research involves a wing foil board, the occasional vineyard, and a trumpet. Wing foiling — riding a small board powered by a hand-held inflatable wing — keeps me honest about the wind. I hold a formal certificate in wine, which mostly means I now read labels more carefully than before. And I play trumpet with varying degrees of success, mostly early in the morning when the neighbors are forgiving.
